Walker Books Australia Wins Bologna Prize for Best Children’s Publisher of the Year - Oceania Region

We're so excited because the 2014 winner of the Bologna Prize for Best Children’s Publishers of the Year in the Oceania region is our very own Walker Books Australia!

The Bologna Prize for Best Children’s Publishers of the Year, an initiative first launched in 2013, pays tribute to excellence in the world of children’s publishing. The prize was established by BolognaFiere in cooperation with AIE - Italian Publishers Association, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Fair.

There are six prizes, one for each geographical area: Africa, North America, Central-South America, Asia, Europe, Oceania.

The Prize has been created to recognize publishers at the forefront of innovation in the industry, as well as celebrate the creative nature and bravery of the editorial choices they have made during the previous year’s edition of the fair.  The aim is to highlight the editorial projects, professional skills and intellectual qualities of work produced by publishing houses all over the world. At the same time, the prize is designed to foster reciprocal knowledge and mutual exchange of ideas among different countries, diverse areas and cultural identities across the globe.

“It is a wonderful acknowledgement to have been nominated for this award, let alone win it. It is a real thrill and honour for all of us to know that 16,420 km away our industry peers are appreciating our books. We are immensely grateful to our rights and export colleagues who bring our books to Bologna year in, and year out,” said Sarah Foster, Managing Director and Publisher of Walker Books Australia.

The prize-winners are not chosen by a jury of experts, but by the publishing houses participating in the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, on the basis of a series of nominations made by the international Publishers Associations and cultural institutions representing book publishers worldwide.
