Judging from the cover of the book and the quick summarization on the back flap, I immediately assumed that City of Bones would be a 'Twilight' wannabe series, especially when it mentioned vampires and romance. Fortunately it turned out to be much more than that, and although I was rather put off by the romantic subplot, dreading that it would eventually dominate the plot, it actually supports the story rather nicely and adds a nice twist to it that I doubt many see coming. Overall this book is an excellent mix of action, magical fantasy stuff and romance with a little suspense tossed in. I must say that after reading it I immediately picked up the sequel City of Ashes as there were too many unanswered questions left and I was compelled to read on. As with its predecessor, City of Ashes has left me wondering and waiting for the final book, City of Glass, to wrap up the story and finally give me some finality on the whole thing.

As a Twilight fan I thought I would never find a book that would beat it in my eyes. This book proved me wrong. I found alot of fans discussing this book on an online community, and with the repeat conversations on this book, I thought it wouldn't hurt to try it, the next day I headed to my local bookstore and picked up a copy. Within a few pages of reading the book, I couldnt put it down. Cassandra Clare has done an excellent job with this book, with the action and romance packed into one. This book is also very amusing, there is alot a witty, sarcastic comments which will have you laughing for hours and eager to read the second installment, City of Ashes. I recommend this book to anyone, and have already got a few friends into this series- a great read which will brighten your day, even when you're in the darkest of moods.

I read City of Bones shortly after it came out, so I've had to wait for each one, which sucks. I am also a Twilight fan, so Twilight and MI are constantly vying for top position in my favourites (MI is winning right now). I'm a total book freak, and any book with vampires, demon slayers and fictional characters I will certainly fall for, are all great, but I love the way The Mortal Instruments is written, and I was hooked from the first page. I've already recommended and lent both City of Bones and City of Ashes to two of my friends, and they're hooked too. I would recommend to anyone who loves books as much as me and I hope you enjoy it too. Peace out :D (By the way, 'MI' is The Mortal Instruments shortened)

Resently ive become an avid reader, ive found i really enjoy the urban fantasy genre. I got this book on a one off, i didnt think id enjoy this book to much, im very guilty of 'judging a book by its cover'. I thought the book would be about well bones and zombie blah blah blah. I couldnt have been more wrong about everything. From reading the first chapter i was hooked and coundnt put it down, it was nothing like i had expected. It was fun and fast paced and keeps you on cliff hangers the whole time. When i had finished i told all my friends to buy it as i was busting to tell them the insane, never seen become twist!! Now me and my friends are greats fans of this book and are impatiently waiting for city of glass to be released.

'The perfect young adult novel. The tale of a shadowy underworld of elegant half-angel demons hunters in New York is thrilling. It’s romantic. The pages fly by.
