The Owl and the Pussy Cat
The Owl and the Pussycat is perhaps the most popular of Edward Lear's classic nonsense verses. Generations of children and adults have delighted in the epic sea voyage of these two courteous lovers and their eventual marriage on the island of the bong tree; in the piggy-wig and his ring, the turkey vicar and the wedding feast eaten with runcible spoons.
There have been several illustrated versions of the poem, but few have caught so perfectly the silliness and spirit of the master of nonsense. Louise Voce's ebullient pictures are filled with an infectious vitality and reveal an eye for the absurd that is a joy to behold.
