Peanut feature

Here we interview Peanut, a very tiny monkey as big as a nut who embarks on a big adventure in this fantastic story book, perfect for reading aloud...

Why is your name Peanut?

Because I'm a Peanut. I grew on a tree. Someone told me that peanuts grow underground. So I might be a brazil nut. Or maybe an almond. But I think I'm a peanut.

Where were you born?

On the end of a twig. I'm not sure what country. All I can see is trees for miles and miles.
And every tree is different – some grow sweets and some grow toys and some grow knives and forks and tin-openers.

My tree grows different flowers and fruit – and nuts.

Where do you live?

I live out in the open – I sleep under leaves, and eat fruit and nectar and wash my face in puddles.
It's warm so I don't mind getting rained on.

What are frightened of?

Nothing! I'm the bravest nut in the world!

Who else lives in the forest?

It seems to be home to all kinds of creatures. There's a lot of noise of hoots and shrieks and chattering and twittering.
And buzzing. And roaring. I heard something roar just nearby.

What is your favourite thing about the forest?

It worries me that no one is in charge. I want to know if there is a king or a queen, or maybe there is a committee of wise monkeys.

Who's your best friend?

In times like these you have to be your own best friend. I don't have any enemies. I try and be a good nut.
I like meeting new kinds of creature. Mostly they seem friendly enough.

What is Beetle like?

Beetle isn't as brave as I am, but he is very dependable.

What's your favourite colour?

The blue of the evening sky when the first star is shining.

What are you good at?

I'm not sure. I seem to be able to eat a lot – even though I'm so small.
