Debi Gliori
As a child
I was born in Glasgow back in the Dark Ages. Apparently I had horns, but they fell off when I was three which was terrifically handy since I went to a nun-run school where the wearing of horns was decidedly not The Done Thing. I loathed school, and after my first day there, was horrified to discover that I still had another eleven years and three hundred and sixty four more days to endure. Vowed to escape as soon as humanly possible.
I loved Art and English, so my teachers helpfully suggested I might want to become a physicist. I wanted to be a princess, but they didn't teach princessnessosity at my school. Settled for being an artist. Which to this day remains one of the best decisions I ever made.
As an adult
I went to Art college in Edinburgh and spent five years in a light-drenched, linseed oil-scented series of studios, learning that becoming an artist isn't something you learn at Art College.
Many, many years later, I'm still learning.

Things you didn't know about Debi Gliori
- If a good tune comes on while I'm working in my studio, I leap to my feet and try to join in on my violin
- I have perfected the art of falling asleep whilst looking as if I'm hard at work.
- I get up at 5.25 a.m in the morning and go to the gym. Nope. I don't like getting up that early, but I still go ahead and do it. This is probably why I sometimes fall asleep at work.
- I am teaching myself how to play the flute. This will take me the rest of my life...
- Once a week I go and play music with the Shetland Fiddlers in Edinburgh. Actually, on the difficult tunes, they play wonderfully and I fake playing averagely, but don't tell anyone.
- I practice flute and fiddle every night when I'm at home. Until my arm hurts which is usually after about an hour and a half. And I'm still rubbish.Urrrrrghhhh.
- I love walking by the sea when the weather is wild and stormy.
- Every weekend, no matter what the weather is doing, I drag my family out for an Extreme Picnic. This always involves soup.
