About Max Eilenberg
Max Eilenberg has written several books for children: Cowboy Kid, illustrated by Sue Heap, Squeak's Good Idea, illustrated by Patrick Benson, Cinderella, illustrated by Niamh Sharkey, and Beauty and the Beast, illustrated by Angela Barrett, which won much critical acclaim. "Beauty and the Beast is a strange, magical story about learning to love," he says. "But what makes it especially fascinating is that it's also about fear and loss. I thought it would be interesting to set it in the nineteenth century, when money, convention and appearance meant perhaps even more than they do now - and to see what happened to a family that loses everything."
