Play the Shape Game

The rules to the Shape Game are simple. The first person draws a shape at random, and the second transforms it into a picture of something recognisable.

Children's Laureate Anthony Browne loved to play this game as a child and is now taking it one stage further.  He has asked over 45 well known names, from Jacqueline Wilson and Quentin Blake to Emma Thompson and Ian McEwan, to join in the fun. He gave them all the same shape, and they have each drawn very different pictures using it. Our new book Play the Shape Game includes all the drawings and new shapes from the celebrities which you can use to play the game too!

You can even start playing thegame now with these activity sheets.

This simple drawing game is the perfect way to encourage a child’s creativity. In partnership with Booktrust and Waterstone’s, all profits are going to charity Rainbow Trust , which provides vital support to families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness.

The original artwork is being sold through an online auction, from which all proceeds will go to the Rainbow Trust.  Take a look at the auction here.
