Daniel Pennac

Daniel Pennac was born in Casablanca in 1944, his father being in the army. He travelled widely in his youth, in Europe, Asia and Africa, and has been employed in a number of capacities, including woodcutter, Paris cab driver, illustrator and schoolteacher.

As an adult

As an artist

Daniel Pennac is one of the most translated authors in France, with books for both adults and children appearing in more than thirty languages around the world. He is the author of Dog (which was his first children’s book), Kamo’s Escape and Eye of the Wolf. Dogs feature heavily in Daniel’s books, and he says that he may even have a bit of dog in him. “I was born on the same day as my first dog. We grew up together.” Daniel lives in Paris.
