Congratulations to Ross Montgomery, winner of the Books Are My Bag Readers Award for Children’s Fiction with I Am Rebel! The winners were unveiled at a ceremony in Foyles bookshop on Charing Cross Road in London, hosted by author and award-winning journalist and broadcaster Charlene White, and streamed live on YouTube.
I Am Rebel has been going from strength to strength since it’s publication in June of this year as a Waterstones Book of the Month for July, as well as being shortlisted for a Waterstones Book of the Year and nominated for a Carnegie Medal for Writing.
The Books are my Bag Readers Awards are the only book awards curated by booksellers and chosen by readers. Booksellers hand pick shortlists for each category which are then voted on by readers in the lead up to the ceremony. It’s been fantastic to see so much support from the trade and the public for I Am Rebel and we are thrilled to see its continued success!
When told of his win at the ceremony, Ross said, “I’m so happy that this book has found its readers, and that’s in huge part thanks to the booksellers who have been so behind it, so this feels like a double honour. Rebel is absolutely speechless! Though that’s mainly because he’s a dog.”
