Introduction to this role

  

You will work as a key team member of the Publishing Services Department to ensure that the high Walker editorial standards are met.

To ensure that all written printed and digital material, primarily new books, sales materials (Advance Information sheets), publicity, promotion and website text originating at Walker Books is copyedited and proofread accurately and conforms to House Style. To manage the eBook and reprint programmes, and to support Editors working on long-extent and fiction titles with the copyediting and proofreading schedules.

 

Reports to: Publishing Manager

 

Skills and Experience Preferred 

Editorial skills:
- Excellent written language skills.
- Superlative spelling and grammatical knowledge.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of proofreading marks.
- A sensitive editorial approach. 

 Computer skills:
- Knowledge of Biblio would be advantageous.
- The ability to understand and interact with new programmes, particularly databases. 

 

Salary: Competitive with a great benefits package

Location: Vauxhall, London

Contract Type: Full Time, Fixed Term (est 12 months)

Editorial Assistant

Introduction to this role

 

To provide the Publishing Director and Senior Commissioning Editors general personal assistance, and junior editorial and administrative support.

You will be involved in responsibilities such as checking proofs and PDF files, Proofreading, anglicising American files, preparing files, supporting Editors in maintaining exisiting author relations, diary management, taking minutes, booking travel, sending out materials etc. 

 

Reports to: Senior Commissioning Editor

   

 

Skills and Experience Preferred 

 

- A passion for children's publishing.

- Strong English skills.
- Highly organised and an enthusiastic self-starter.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Meeting deadlines while providing timely and accurate information.
- Accuracy of proofreading and an eye for detail.
- Ability to work as part of a large team.
- Prior publishing experience and/or degree desirable but not essential.

 

Salary: Competitive with a great benefits package

Location: Vauxhall, London

Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent
