Role: Group Export Sales Executive

Reports to: Group Export Sales Director

 

Introduction to this role

To maximise Walker Group and Third Party Client Export Sales in the territories agreed upon and devise and implement strategies to increase sales and achieve budgets, whilst also protecting margin. Working collaboratively with the rest of the team to ensure overall Group Export team budget is achieved across UK, US and Australian lists.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Group Export Territories – Southern/Eastern Europe, Latin America, Pakistan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, UK exporters

  • Agree sales  targets with Group Export Sales Director and working to achieve them, maximising sales across the whole Group.
  • Developing relationships and sales with existing customers.
  • Carrying out market research to explore new sales opportunities and extend account base.
  • Working out strategies for individual markets in view of maximising sales and delivering quarterly and annual growth.
  • Visiting customers in territories and meeting at book fairs.
  • Processing orders, dealing with all customer enquiries, problems, requests..
  • Negotiating discounts to expected company margins.
  • Providing advance notification of new titles and reprints to customers. Focus on key brands to ensure these continue to grow.
  • Analysing past promotions within the territory in order to inform on-going strategy.
  • Keep the rest of the team up-to-speed with ideas, suggestions, successes to maximise sales. Feedback information on the competition.
  • Submitting sales reports no more than 5 days after sales trips and Book Fairs and distributing them to interested parties in the Group .
  • Knowledge of the lists in order to sell effectively.  This includes

-  Attending regular meetings and sales conferences.

-  Reading advance information on material.

-  Reading manuscripts/books as  necessary.

-  Maintaining currency in competitor range/backlists through active information seeking outside company.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the trends, market conditions and factors of each individual territory.
  • Liaising with customers on a regular basis on promotions, special packages, reprints and new projects. Ensuring maximum coverage in customer catalogues, making recommendations with regard to marketing spend in consultation with Group Export Sales Director.
  • Attending Acquisition, Development and Cover meetings when required, and advising accordingly on behalf of the whole Export team to feed into and influence our Publishing to maximise Export sales.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Significant and proven experience in Sales within the Publishing and Bookselling industry. Export Sales experience is not essential.
  • Proficient in Excel (minimum Intermediate level), Word and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional organisational, analytical and administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Cultural awareness.
  • Interest in children’s books.
  • A good understanding of print production financials and logistics.
  • Spanish speaker an advantage.

Role: Graphic Production Manager

Reports to: Director of Graphic Production and Design Support

 

Introduction to this role

A variety of duties related to the setup and distribution of Walker Group content, designed principally for Co-edition publishing. Primary duties will entail overseeing the prepress delivery and standards of our files to external and internal clients, and managing the Graphic Production Assistant. This role will work closely with the Director Graphic Production and Production Department in ensuring proper and correct Walker Publishing Group file standards are adhered to, and the longevity of assets are assured.

This position requires strong technical aptitude, drive, the ability to multitask and. The candidate will work alongside several departments, ensuring our users have the best tools and workflows available to continue creating high quality books. This is a diverse and challenging role, within a friendly collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform digital prepress functions including the pre-flight of incoming/outgoing jobs; checking colour profiles, fonts, quality and format of all files. Verify page layouts, accounting for printer requirements; create press-ready documents.
  • Assist the publishing teams with correct file setup; providing appropriate training and training material.
  • Check assets in/out of the Biblio DAM system, following the prescribed workflow. Ensuring proper meta-data and correct security levels are applied to all assets.
  • Help to ensure that users adhere to Walker Group workflow practices, implemented in consultation with Group Production, Group Publishing Technologies and Group Graphic Production teams.
  • Work closely with Production to stay abreast of proper file and press standards with all repro houses and printers.
  • Support Production Controllers in sharing of assets through Biblio DAM, as well as providing relevant training in DAM upload/invite procedures.
  • Work with the Director Graphic Production to identify potential training requirements, based on user file submissions.
  • Provide user support and troubleshooting for all prepressprocesses.
  • Regular house-keeping of CrushFTP server.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

 

 Skills and Experience Required:

  • Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, in particular, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat Pro.
  • Familiarity with Enfocus Pitstop or similar prepress software.
  • Should have at least 5 years working in a mac-based, prepress, technical environment.
  • Good understanding of Co-edition publishing and print production.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional and consistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage a varied and occasionally heavy workload, within a busy team.
  • A professional approach to time, costs and deadlines.
  • Ability to spot and offer solutions to prepress issues.
  • Highly self-motivated, enjoys working as part of a team, and also able to work independently.
