1) Group Export Sales Manager

To maximise Group Export Sales in the territories agreed upon and devise and implement strategies to increase sales and achieve budgets, whilst also protecting margin. Working collaboratively with the rest of the team to ensure overall Group Export team budget is achieved across UK, US and Australian lists.

Responsibilities:Group Export Territories - Middle East, North and Western Europe, Scandinavia, Africa excluding South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Japan, C/S America

  • Agreeing sales  targets with Group Export Sales Director and working to achieve them, maximising sales across the whole Group
  • Comprehensive understanding of the trends, market conditions and factors of each individual territory
  • Develop strategy and manage reps for Japan and C/S America providing them with sufficient information and support to enable them to achieve sales targets. Support on this from Group Export Sales Assistant
  • Developing relationships and sales with existing customers
  • Carrying out market research to explore new sales opportunities and extend account base
  • Working out strategies for individual markets in view of maximising sales and delivering quarterly and annual growth
  • Visiting customers in territories and meeting at book fairs
  • Liaising with customers on a regular basis on promotions, special packages, reprints and new projects. Ensuring maximum coverage in customer catalogues, making recommendations with regard to marketing spend in consultation with Group Export Sales Director
  • Attending Acquisition, Development and Cover meetings, and advising accordingly on behalf of the whole Export team to feed into and influence our Publishing to maximise Export sales
  • Processing orders, dealing with all customer enquiries, problems, requests. Support from Group Export Sales Assistant as required (checking stock, dealing with customer queries, ordering samples)
  • Negotiating discounts to expected company margins
  • Providing advance notification of new titles and reprints to customers. Focus on key brands to ensure these continue to grow
  • Analysing past promotions within the territory in order to inform on-going strategy
  • Keep the rest of the team up-to-speed with ideas, suggestions, successes to maximise sales. Feedback information on the competition
  • Submitting sales reports  immediately after sales trips and Book Fairs and distributing them to interested parties in the Group
  • Knowledge of the lists in order to sell effectively.  This includes:

-          attending regular meetings and sales conferences

-          reading advance information on material

-          reading manuscripts/books as  necessary

-          maintaining currency in competitor range/backlists through active information seeking outside the company    

  Key Performance Indicators:

  • Achievement of sales targets
  • Ability to grow territory revenue whilst protecting discount and margin
  • Ability to analyse commercial effectiveness of sales and marketing activity and use that analysis to develop strategies going forward
  • Able to inform and advise on own markets and territories and feedback accordingly
  • Accuracy, relevance and timeliness of sales reports


 Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Proficient in Excel (minimum Intermediate level), Word and PowerPoint
  • Significant and proven experience in Sales within the Publishing and Bookselling industry. Export Sales experience is not essential
  • Exceptional organisational, analytical and administrative skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Cultural awareness
  • Interest in children’s books
  • A good understanding of print production financials and logistics



2) Senior Business Affairs Executive

Reporting to the Senior Business Affairs Manager you will be issuing, negotiating and administering picture book head contracts, flat fee agreements, licensing and other subsidiary rights agreements in a timely manner; maintaining up-to-date, accurate records and filing systems relating to such agreements; other ad hoc tasks across department as and when necessary.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

The ideal candidate will have minimum 3-4 years’ experience in drafting and negotiating publishing head contracts

Graduate level education or equivalent

Knowledge of Biblio would be an advantage

Flexible and proactive

A good knowledge and application of copyright laws and rights ownership issues
